The St. John's Transportation Commission is looking for qualified candidates to fill the permanent positions of Truck and Transport Mechanics or 4th Year Truck & Transport Apprentices. Consideration will also be given to Heavy Equipment Mechanics or Apprentices with truck/bus experience.

Duties:
Repairs and maintains light and heavy duty equipment including repairing and rebuilding engines and transmissions; diagnoses and repairs air brake, suspension, steering and electrical systems; keeps abreast of new technological changes in the maintenance field; and performs other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ability to work as a member of a proactive customer service team; a Journeyman or Apprentice in Truck and Transport Repair or Heavy Equipment Repair; graduation from high school plus any equivalent combination of experience and training; well developed interpersonal skills; the ability to work with minimum supervision; and the possession of a valid driver's license with Class 9A endorsement and Class 2 permit. Knowledge of electronic engine and transmission controls will be deemed an asset.

The St. John's Transportation Commission is seeking interested candidates for our Transit Operator Training Program.
The program, scheduled for July is three (3) weeks in length and includes training in bus driving, customer service, and operational procedures. Upon successful completion of the Training Program, individuals will be eligible for future employment as a Transit Operator.
Our Transit Operators operate transit buses on established routes, with fixed time schedules in high density traffic and in all weather conditions. The position requires attentiveness, good judgment, safe driving habits, time management and an ability to deal with a diverse customer base.
Upon being hired, new Transit Operators are considered Temporary employees. This means that they do not have regularly scheduled shifts and are called for work on an "as needed basis". They must provide maximum flexibility as they will be required to work a variety of split shifts, day or night shifts and weekend shifts. QUALIFICATIONS:
Successful candidates must have the ability to work as a member of a pro-active customer service team; possess an ability to effectively understand, speak and write in English as well as strong problem solving skills; graduation from high school with post-secondary course work preferred; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and have at least five (5) years of driving experience. Class 02 and 09 endorsements are deemed an asset. Applicants not possessing these endorsements must meet the eligibility requirements. As a condition of employment, candidates selected for the training program must successfully complete pre-employment drug testing.
